Your Wedding Day Must Have List

, , , , , , , , , ,

As you plan your Columbus wedding, what are the elements that you’re most excited about? Beyond the joy and love, what parts of the day have you been dreaming about for years? These are your wedding day “must haves” and it can be very helpful for you to make a list of these elements.

When you create your must have list, it gives you, your wedding planner, and your vendors an idea of what to prioritize. For example, when you meet with your photographer, the must have list can give them an idea of what to focus on during your wedding day.

If the top of your list is a bouquet made of flowers from your grandmother’s garden, let your photographer know that this is a very important part of your wedding day. They’ll be sure to get some extra photos of the bouquet, and you’ll be able to remember it for years to come.

Working with an excellent and experienced wedding photographer is a must have for any couple, of course. If you’re looking for the right photographer for your wedding, get in touch with us today!

Are You Going to Enjoy Your Wedding?

, , , , , , , , , ,

This may seem like a silly question, but are you going to enjoy your own wedding? When you get wrapped up in planning and organizing everything, it’s easy to forget that this is a very special day. There are ways of making sure you get a chance to enjoy your wedding day, though.

The biggest thing is to know when to stop planning. When your wedding day rolls around, pass off the responsibility for last minute logistics to somebody else, whether it’s a wedding planner, a friend, or a family member. This allows you to be fully engaged with your role on the wedding day.

Another way to make your wedding day run smoother, which will allow you to enjoy the day, is to work with wedding vendors that handle more than one aspect of your day. When you choose New Image Studios and Music Express DJs, for instance, we coordinate our work so you don’t need to.

When your wedding day arrives, you’ll want to take in all the magical moments of joy that will make the day so special. To find out how we can help make your Columbus wedding day even better, get in touch today!

Perfect Wedding Photos Combination of Candid and Posed

, , , , , , ,

This week, there was a great article on The Huffington Post by G.E. Masana about the power of photographs. In it, he talks about the way photographs can capture us as we really are, and that candid photography has the opportunity to encapsulate the real emotion we feel at a wedding.

We love taking both types of photos for all the Ohio couples we work with. Many couples have some great ideas for photos of their bridal party, and in many cases the venue lends itself to an idea that turns out amazing. These posed photos are an important part of your wedding photography. They show everyone, all together and looking fabulous.

But, as G.E. Masana notes, candid shots are just as important. Some of the most emotional photos from a wedding are taken while the couple are in the process of getting married, or during their first dance. It’s these moments — where the bride and groom are only thinking about each other — that the real love at the wedding can shine through in the photos.

We think that great wedding photography covers both bases. If you agree, and want to find out what we can do at your Columbus wedding, get in touch today!

Michael Jordan’s Big Wedding

As one of the biggest basketball players of all time, it’s only fitting that Michael Jordan had an almost equally legendary wedding. He was married last week to model Yvette Prieto in Florida and there was nothing small about their big day from what we’ve heard!

The couple’s reception was held in what has been billed as the world’s biggest ever wedding tent. The 40,000 square foot tent was set up on the golf course at the Bear Club, where the couple have a 35,000 square foot mansion.

We’ve also heard that Michael and Yvette also chose to surprise each other with musical performances, in addition to the band that was hired to play for the reception. Michael had Robin Thicke sing to Yvette, and Yvette had Usher do a set for Michael.

While much of the wedding details still haven’t been released, it is clear that Michael and Yvette truly made their wedding into the day of their dreams. We look forward to finding out more about what they included, and to seeing more photos.

If you’re planning a wedding here in Columbus, there are plenty of ways to give it that celebrity touch. Give us a call to find out how our team can make your wedding day something extra special.

Including Your Pet in Your Wedding

, , , , , , ,

For many of us, our pets are a big part of our family. While your terrier might not be able to give you a toast, it might be possible for you to include your pet in your wedding.

  • A guest of honor. If you don’t think your pet will be able to handle the work involved in being a part of the wedding, it can still be great to have them there as a guest. Dressing up your pooch for the big day and having him on hand can be fun, but make sure your venue will allow him inside.
  • Ring bearer. If your dog is well-trained, you can have her deliver the rings to you at the altar. You can buy or make a ring pillow collar. If you aren’t sure she’ll walk straight down the aisle, consider having an usher with a leash.
  • Picture perfect pup. If you can’t include your dog in your wedding ceremony, you can still include them in the photos. Having your dog brought in for the photos can be a special way of including him in your big day without needing to worry about how he’ll behave all day.

If you’re thinking of including your pet in your Columbus wedding, give us a call to find out how to make them part of your photos.

How To Choose a Great Wedding Photographer

, , , , , , , , , ,

It’s no secret that wedding photographers are everywhere.  But are they a trained professional?  Do they know how lighting (natural and otherwise) will effect your photos?

A great wedding photographer will know how these lights will effect a shot.

There is no “do-over” when it comes to wedding photos so make sure you ask any wedding photographer that is up for hire these questions:

  • When lighting is dim, what do you do to make sure shots come out right?
  • How would you describe your style? Do they choreograph shots or cater to “live” shots that capture the true emotion of the day?
  • What makes you different from other photographers?
  • Do you have a portfolio I can review? Are all of the images yours, and is the work recent?
  • How many weddings have you shot?
  • Have you shot weddings at my venue?  This is important because of lighting and decor restrictions.
  • Do you shoot in color and black & white? Both? Infrared?
  • Are you the photographer who will shoot my wedding? If so, will you have any assistants with you on that day?
  • How will you and your assistance (if any) be dressed?
  • What will you do if an emergency happens and you can’t make our wedding?
  • How much do you charge and for what exactly?

These questions will help you weed out the “wanna-be” Ohio based wedding photographers and the true professionals.  We would love to answer these questions for you.  Please give us a call and let’s chat about your upcoming event.

How to Use Your Engagement Photo as a Wedding Invitation

, , , , , , , , ,

As an Ohio based wedding photographer, we are often capturing the emotions of young love during an engagement session.  During such shoots, couples ask us if they should include an engagement photo with their wedding invitation?  We say YES!  In fact, we’ve seen couples use a photo from their engagement session as the back of their invitation.

There are several companies that will print directly on the back of your photo without ruining the actual shot.  This is a great way to announce your engagement and wedding plans as well as give your guests something immediate to hold on to as a momento of your special love.

Here are a few other ways to use your engagement photos:

  • E-vite slideshow This is a new trendy take on an eco-friendly way to get the word out! Take the photos from your engagement session, upload them to Vimeo and send a slideshow with wedding details as an e-vite.
  • Save the date magnets Your guests will never forget when your wedding is.  It will always be front and center on their fridge.
  • Guestbook – Use online sources like Shutterfly to create a wedding guestbook which includes photos of your engagement shoot.  This is a great way of showcasing your love before and after “I Do”.

You should consider an engagement shoot as an integral part of your entire wedding experience. This is where your commitment starts, the “I do’s” just seal the deal.  If you’re looking to create these lasting memories, give us a call and let’s talk about who you are and the best way to capture your love.

Keira Knightley Says No To Big Wedding

When an A-list actress and her musician fiancé get married, it’s only normal to expect a huge wedding. However, when Keira Knightley and James Righton get married, it’s likely we’ll see the exact opposite.

Keira Knightley and James Righton

The actress told Marie Claire that she and James don’t want a big wedding. As part of a longer interview with the magazine, she explained that she’s also trying to enjoy being engaged. As a result, the wedding might not be any time soon.

She also made it clear that there won’t be any fake weddings to throw the media off their trail. While they can afford to throw six fake weddings, she said, they just don’t want to go to that sort of effort.

Instead, it’s likely the couple will opt for something laid-back and relaxed. We’re sure there will be plenty of great music, and that such a photogenic couple will have a beautiful wedding photo album.

If you’re like Keira and James and want a small wedding, it’s even more important to have a great wedding photographer to capture every moment of your big day. To find out how we can photograph your Columbus wedding, get in touch with us today!

Photographing Your First Dance

, , , , ,

The first dance is one of the most special moments of any wedding, so it’s important that you properly capture it. Having a professional photographer there for your first dance can be the difference between having a cherished memory and a black and white blur.

As professional photographers and videographers, we can capture both still images of your dance and a video that will show off all your great moves. We also know how to show the most important parts of the dance, from the look you share as newlyweds to the fabulous dip.

Of course, many of your guests will probably arrive armed with a camera and excited about taking their own snaps of this special moment. Chances are you’ll get a few good shots, but nothing takes the place of a professional camera. We’re prepared for the particular lighting of the room, and know how to get the best shots of you as you dance. Besides, you want your guests to pay attention to your dance, not be preoccupied with trying to get the best photos.

If you want to know more about how we photograph your first dance, or to see some more samples of our first dance photography, give us a call.
